Welcome to our new Medical Imaging residents! We are pleased to announce the addition of our 10 new Radiology residents to the Diagnostic Radiology and Interventional Radiology-Integrated Residency Training Programs. They will be joining our programs in July 2022.

Visualsonics, owned by Fuji, sponsors a live mouse imaging workshop featuring a presentation by Russell Witte, PhD and other University of Arizona Researchers plus demonstrations of the LAZR-X ultrasound/photoacoustic imaging system. This imaging system is now part of the UArizona imaging core facilities in the Bioscience Research Lab and available for researchers across campus.
The University of Arizona Cancer Center’s molecular tumor board has new leadership and an expanded approach to discovering novel treatments for rare and difficult-to-treat tumors
Dr. Witte has been awarded $3,434,477 from the National Institute of Biomedical Imaging and Bioengineering to develop the first safe, real-time and high resolution system for mapping electricity in the human brain. The Transcranial Acoustoelectric Brain Imaging (tABI) that will be developed by Dr. Witte’s team aims at transforming our understanding of normal brain function and help diagnose, monitor, and treat a wide variety of neurologic, psychiatric, and behavioral disorders.
Medical Imaging congratulates former CGRI graduate student Alexander Lin, PhD. He defended his dissertation "Adaptive Imaging and SPECT" on Tuesday, November 24, 2020.

The University of Arizona Department of Medical Imaging (DMI) at the College of Medicine – Tucson is pleased to welcome Alan Chiang, MD, PhD, as the newest member of the department faculty. Dr. Chiang joins DMI as a clinical assistant professor with the Breast Imaging Division. He is the Site Director of the Advanced Breast Imaging Center and the Modality Director of Mammography.
Medical Imaging Vice Chair and Associate Professor Hina Arif-Tiwari, MD, is working on a research team to better understand and combat an often silent killer: pancreatic cancer. The most common form of this disease is known as Pancreatic Ductal Adenocarcinoma (PDAC). Commonly, patients receiving a PDAC diagnosis also receive a poor prognosis. Five year survival rates are reported to be only 7%.
Dr. Rubin is hitting the ground running and personifies a “roll up your sleeves” leadership style. He continues to connect with faculty, staff, Banner administrators and COM-T leadership in the process of building important relationships. Conveying a sincere desire to understand individual perspectives and goals, Dr. Rubin has successfully dialed in on the urgent and important matters facing the department.
The search for a new Chair of Medical Imaging has come to a successful completion. Geoffrey Rubin, MD, MBA, renowned expert in the field of cardiovascular and pulmonary imaging, will join the University of Arizona College of Medicine – Tucson, effective Thursday, Oct. 1.
