Congratulations to Lars Furenlid, PhD, appointed as the inaugural Harry H. and Catherine C. Barrett Endowed Chair in Optical Sciences for Cancer Imaging. This professorship resides in Optical Sciences and furthers the depth of collaborative relationships between the College of Optical Sciences and our Department of Medical Imaging.

Dr. Rubin was interviewed regarding the nationwide dye shortage and discussed the important role contrast plays in medical imaging.
As invited faculty, Dr. Arif traveled to London to present a Body MRI Tutorial. Her topic was titled, "Protocols and reporting for cancer staging: MRI of Rectal Cancer."
Dr. Rubin’s research recently featured in RSNA News, seeks a partnership between man and machine with AI to help Radiologists interpret what they are reading most effectively.
Congratulations to Integrated Interventional Radiology Resident David McNiel, MD, PhD, who won first prize in the Biomedical Shark Tank Pitch Competition. His entry, “Transcatheter Hepatic Transfection of the Sodium Iodine Symporter: Towards Oral Radioiodine Segmentectomy,” took first place among seven competing submissions.
DR Resident Dr. Richard Wruble received high praise from a patient he recently cared for. The patient took the time to send a letter of appreciation for his excellent and compassionate care.

Discussing the COM-T Women in Academic Medicine (WAM) mission, Dr. Arif explains the positive impact of mentoring. "I think for students, it's really important for them to see that what they aspire, as incoming students, is something that's achievable. There are people that have taken those paths and have actually done it," said UArizona College of Medicine Professor of Medical Imaging, Hina Arif-Tiwari.
Terry Matsunaga, PhD, professor of medical imaging in the University of Arizona College of Medicine – Tucson, was elected as a fellow of the National Academy of Inventors (NAI). The NAI Fellows Program highlights academic inventors who have demonstrated a spirit of innovation in creating or facilitating inventions that have a tangible impact on quality of life, economic development and the welfare of society. Dr. Matsunaga’s current research focuses on using contrast-enhanced ultrasound and microbubble technology for cancer imaging as well as drug and gene delivery.
We are pleased to announce that all our residency positions successfully filled during this year's main match for our two residency programs. The ten new radiology residents join the Diagnostic Radiology and the Interventional Radiology-Integrated Residency Training Programs in July 2023.
The University of Arizona College of Medicine – Tucson, Department of Medical Imaging (DMI) is pleased to welcome Shamar Young, MD, who will serve as the new Chief of Interventional Radiology. Dr. Young joins us from the University of Minnesota where he served as an associate professor of radiology specializing in interventional radiology.
