Screening Mammography

A screening mammogram can detect breast cancer at its earliest stage.  We adhere to the American College of Radiology and Society of Breast Imaging recommendation of annual screening mammography for all women beginning at age 40, which has been shown to reduce deaths from breast cancer by up to 40%.

Digital breast tomosynthesis (3-D mammography) represents the newest advance in mammography technology, enabling better detection of smaller and more subtle abnormalities in the breast.  It also increases accuracy, meaning that fewer women are recalled for additional imaging.  We are committed to providing the best technology for every patient and we, therefore, perform all screening mammograms using digital breast tomosynthesis.  Patients will not be billed for the additional cost of a 3-D mammogram when it is not covered by their medical insurance provider.

Patient comfort is extremely important to us.  For every mammogram performed, our experienced technologists strive to obtain the best images while paying careful attention to the specific needs of each patient.  Our approach is always compassionate and respectful.

Diagnostic Imaging

When additional imaging is necessary, our center offers specialized mammogram views and state-of-the-art breast ultrasound. These diagnostic examinations are overseen by our breast imaging experts, who are available to discuss results and any further recommendations with patients at the time of their appointment.

We also perform breast MRI examinations, utilizing the most modern equipment and specialized imaging protocols.  Breast MRI enables more in-depth evaluation of imaging findings or symptoms in specific situations.  We also offer breast MRI as an additional mode of screening for women who are at increased risk for breast cancer based on personal/family history breast cancer or certain genetic mutations.

Procedures

When needed, a core needle breast biopsy can be performed at our center with mammography, ultrasound or MRI guidance. We are currently the only facility in southern Arizona that offers 3-D-guided core needle biopsies for certain suspicious findings in the breast. Our doctors are highly trained and experienced in breast biopsy, as well as other specialized procedures such as cyst aspiration, ductography, skin punch biopsy, and image-guided Savi Scout reflector localization of areas that need to be surgically removed. This means that procedures are performed skillfully and accurately, providing the most reliable results and best outcomes.

In addition, our team is pleased to announce the availability of cryoablation for the minimally invasive treatment of breast fibroadenomas.  Traditionally, open excisional biopsy (i.e., surgery) has been the only option. But now, a minimally invasive option is available that can be performed in the office under local anesthesia.

Bone Density Scanning

We offer DEXA scans for evaluation of bone mineral density. For convenience, these can be scheduled in conjunction with annual mammograms.
