(VIRTUAL) Medical Ethics Reality Forum PubMed Ethics: Resource Allocation and Ethical Decision Making w/ special guest Dr. Bree Johnston

We are excited to announce that we will have a special guest this week, Dr. Bree Johnston. Please join us this week for a discussion on how hospitals approach resource allocation and ethical decision making during times of crisis, with a particular focus on Banner’s response to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. In order to better accommodate Dr. Johnston’s schedule, this week our meeting will begin at 6:15PM. Please make sure to fill out our weekly pre-discussion poll before the event!

Bree Johnston MD MPH FACP has been with Banner University Medical Center since February of 2017.  She is a Professor of Medicine in the Division of General Medicine, Geriatrics, and Palliative Care. She spends the majority of her time with the inpatient palliative care service, and also works with the Arizona Center on Aging.  She is the Director of the University of Arizona Palliative Medicine Fellowship Program, and is actively involved in teaching students, residents, fellows, and faculty about palliative medicine and geriatrics.  She received her undergraduate degree from UC Santa Cruz, her MPH from UC Berkeley, her MD degree from UC San Francisco, and completed primary care medicine residency at UC Davis, where she also served as Chief Medical Resident.  She completed her fellowship in geriatric medicine at Stanford University in 1996.  Most of Dr. Johnston’s career was spent at UC San Francisco where she was Professor of Medicine and served as the Chief for Geriatrics Education and Director of the Geriatric Fellowship Program.  From 2011-2016, She was the Director of Palliative Care at PeaceHealth Medical System serving hospitals in Washington, Oregon, and Alaska, and also served as Professor at the University of Washington.  She is the author of numerous book chapters and journal articles, and has spoken extensively at national meetings on geriatrics and palliative care topics. She currently serves on the American Board of Internal Medicine geriatrics exam writing committee.
