“Nanoparticles as Anti-Cancer Drug Carriers; Are We There Yet? ... No, But We're Closer!”

About the Topic:
There is a continuing expansion of materials and approaches used to create new nanodrug carriers. However, after 40 years nanocarriers satisfy only a nano-portion of the drug delivery market, mainly in the oncology sector. The one carrier that has multiple FDA-approved products is the liposome. I will describe recent developments concerning new packaging methodology for encapsulation of sparingly soluble drugs and ways to improve liposome penetration into solid tumors and tissues that may provide a path for higher target dose intensity for a greater number of drugs.
