MI Grand Rounds: Generative Models in Medical imaging

Wed, 11/15/2023 - 12:00pm to 1:00pm

Ali Bilgin, PhD, Associate Department Head for Bniomedical Engineering Graduate Affairs and Associate Professor of Biomedical Engineering, Electrical and Computer Engineering and Medical Imaging, is presenting "Generative Models in Medical imaging"

Abstract:

Over the past decade, Artificial Intelligence (AI) methods have emerged as powerful tools that can improve a variety of routine procedures within the domain of medical imaging. This talk will delve into the cutting-edge generative AI methodologies, such as Generative Adversarial Networks (GANs), Variational Autoencoders (VAEs), and Diffusion Probabilistic Models, which have shown promise in many common tasks in medical imaging. We will explore how these methods can not only generate synthetic medical images for training and research, potentially mitigating the scarcity of available annotated datasets while preserving patient privacy, but how they can also accelerate data acquisition and enhance image resolution. The talk will also discuss the challenges intrinsic to the deployment of generative AI in medical imaging.

***Lunch will be provided.
