Title: Augmented Radiology - The Future of the Radiologist in a World of Artificial Intelligence

The Department of Medical Imaging is pleased to have Wyatt Daniel Unger, MD, MBA, presenting at our Grand Rounds on Wednesday, June 6, 2018 in the College of Medicine, Room 2117, at 12:00 pm.

Dr. Unger is a clinical fellow in abdominal radiology at The University of Arizona, where he also completed his residency training in diagnostic radiology.  He earned an MBA from The University of Arizona Eller College of Business and completed his undergraduate studies in economics at Northwestern University.

Abstract:  Machine learning, or artificial intelligence (AI), has seen a huge surge in popularity over the last several years, with national radiology conferences being dominated by new AI algorithms. Over $2 billion in venture capital has been invested into AI startup companies in medical imaging; and the number of new startups in this arena is growing exponentially. This technology has the potential to transform the field of radiology at a frenetic pace, and we must be proactive with keeping up with this technology in order to become leaders in the new era of augmented radiology.

This presentation will discuss the history and current state of the art of machine learning in radiology. We will discuss how AI can involve this growing part of medicine and will eventually transform the way we diagnose, treat, and deliver care to our patients. Our jobs may look different in the future, but it has never been a more exciting time to be a radiologist.
