Title: Go With the Flow: Concepts of the Ventricular System

Speaker: Ethan Allen Neufeld, MD

The Department of Medical Imaging is pleased to have Ethan Allen Neufeld, MD, presenting at our Grand Rounds on Friday, October 5th, in DuVal Audtorium at 12:00 pm.

Dr. Ethan Neufeld is a neuroradiologist currently in his second year of fellowship at the University of Utah where he works part time as a visiting instructor. He completed medical school at Loma Linda University in California and completed his internal medicine internship in his hometown at the University of California San Francisco, Fresno campus.

Dr. Neufeld completed his residency at University of California Davis in Sacramento where he was Chief Resident and the Residency Academic Advisor. His academic interests include integrating radiology education into medical school curricula, peripheral nervous system imaging, and radiology topics influencing neurosurgical care of patients.

Abstract: The ventricular system is a dynamic component of the intracranial compartment that is often affected by intraparenchymal pathology. Additionally, disorders of the flow of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) can – in and of themselves – cause profound morbidity to patients. The clinical and imaging manifestations of such disorders are myriad and often nuanced. This lecture will present the fundamental concepts of the ventricular system including its anatomy and physiology. Disorders of CSF flow will be discussed in terms of their physiologic underpinnings and imaging findings. Lastly, current radiology research regarding some of the more complex pathologies such as normal pressure hydrocephalus will be reviewed.
