Dr. Berndt Schmit is an assistant professor of radiology at the Banner University Arizona Medical Center. He is board certified in radiology and is fellowship trained in musculoskeletal imaging.
Dr. Schmit graduated from Tufts University School of Medicine in Boston. He then worked two years in the emergency medicine residency at the University of Arizona before returning to Boston for his radiology training. He completed his diagnostic radiology residency at Mount Auburn Hospital in Cambridge Massachusetts and then completed the musculoskeletal fellowship at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston.
In 2014, Dr. Schmit earned a Master in Business Operational Excellence degree from The Ohio State University focusing on Lean health care management and process improvement. Dr. Schmit is especially interested in change management and cultures which foster the workforce empowerment and engagement that leads to intrinsic and sustainable quality improvement.
He was given ‘Faculty of the Year’ award by the radiology residents at University of Utah in 2000. Dr. Schmit is co-author of Bone and Soft Tissue Tumors, A Multidisciplinary Review with Case Presentations, 2014. He has extensive experience with sarcoma imaging, 3 tesla musculoskeletal imaging, joint and epidural injections. He has broad experience in private practice radiology including; building 3 successful teleradiology practices, health quality consulting, and imaging center development and management.
Dr. Schmit is passionately committed to radiology global health improvement and holds a senior management position with Rad-Aid International. He has active educational and development projects in Haiti, Guyana and Nicaragua. He frequently travels internationally to lecture, teach residents, consult and oversee initiatives to improve medical imaging in low and middle income countries.
