State-of-the-art ultrasound machines have recently been deployed for inpatient and outpatient use at the UAHN. This latest generation ultrasound technology provides high quality, dynamic scanning possibilities for a variety of disease processes in the abdomen and pelvis. In addition, these machines have the capability to assess tissue stiffness and elasticity, which is a frequent marker of chronic disease and fibrosis, especially in the liver. The research and development of this technology at the UAHN may allow for a reduction in the need for invasive tissue sampling and histological analysis. High quality vascular ultrasound and 3D sonographic imaging are all features of this new technology and important diagnostic tools for our Body Imaging experts.
