The Department of Medical Imaging is pleased to have Francisco Lucio, JD and Lydia Kennedy, MEd, presenting a Diversity Workshop on Wednesday, March 14th at 12:00 pm, in the College of Medicine, Room 2117.
Francisco Lucio serves as the Associate Dean of Diversity and Inclusion at the University of Arizona College of Medicine – Phoenix. In this brand new role at the College of Medicine, Mr. Lucio is responsible for the continued cultivation of a diverse, inclusive and equitable environment for all faculty, residents, fellows, students and staff.
Prior to joining the College of Medicine, Mr. Lucio was the Director of Diversity and Inclusion at New York University School of Medicine where he helped lead the development of key institutional diversity initiatives including a robust mentoring program for students, faculty recruitment and interview guidelines, and professional development programming for faculty, residents and staff. Mr. Lucio has extensive pipeline program experience successfully overseeing two $500,000 New York State of Education Department grant funded programs targeting the development of underrepresented and socio-economically disadvantaged high school and college students into the STEM fields.
Mr. Lucio serves on and has served on multiple local and national organization boards aimed at increasing diversity of students underrepresented in the health fields including the National Association of Medical Minority Educators and the Manhattan Staten Island Area Health Education Center. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science from San Diego State University and a Juris Doctorate from St. John’s University School of Law where he was the recipient of the American Bar Association, Health Law Section and the National Bureau of National Affairs, Inc. Award for Excellence in the Study of Health Law.
Lydia Kennedy, M.Ed., is a 4th generation Tucson native, and a first generation graduate of the University of Arizona with a Bachelor’s in Psychology and Northern Arizona University with a Master's in Educational Leadership. She is a Certified Trainer with over 20 years’ experience in Senior Human Resources Management for multimillion and $2.5 Billion dollar companies. Her extensive experience includes recruiting, diversity, training, compensation, employee relations and employment law. Lydia was a small business owner of ReActivate, LLC, in Tucson, AZ from 2009-2014.
Lydia Kennedy is the Director of the Office of Diversity and Inclusion (ODI) at University of Arizona Health Sciences (UAHS) with a focus in increasing recruitment, engagement, retention, support and promotion of underrepresented minorities in health professions for College of Medicine, College of Nursing, College of Pharmacy and College of Public Health. She serves as an Executive Board Member for the UA Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) and is a co-chair on the Equity and Mentoring sub-committee, where she created campus-wide Outstanding mentoring awards for faculty, appointed professionals and classified staff. Lydia is a trained mentor facilitator with the National Research Mentoring Network (NRMN).
