Cardiothoracic Imaging Fellowship

Program Overview:

The Cardiothoracic fellowship  offers one year of graduate medical education in cardiothoracic imaging. This is a non-CGME fellowship commencing July 1 and ending 30 June of the following year.

Clinical

Imaging Modalities

Trainees will be exposed to a wide variety of pathology and gain familiarity with both cardiac and thoracic diseases encountered in clinical practice. This will include training in chest radiograph, thoracic CT/MRI, CT/MRI Angiography in addition to cardiac CT/MRI and coronary imaging. Opportunities in nuclear cardiac imaging and body MRI are also built into the fellowship. Exposure to 3D reconstruction methods and interpretation will be included.

Consultative Skills

Fellows will learn to be expert consultants and leaders in thoracic and cardiac imaging, also participating in teaching and multidisciplinary conferences.

Research

Opportunities for scholarly activity mentored by the faculty will be available during training. Fellows will be encouraged to participate in original research projects, author publications and present at meetings. If a presentation is accepted for a national conference, department funding is often available. The Arizona Health Sciences Library (AHSL) of the University of Arizona supports the students, faculty, researchers, and clinicians in the College of Medicine and other colleges. AHSL enables electronic access to vast stores of biomedical literature (around 10,000 serials). Information about holdings of AHSL including thousands of full-text journals is available through the campus library catalog 24 hours a day.
